Franchise records

Two record books, kept apart on purpose. The all-time records below are hand-researched with sources and cover the franchise from 1967. The leaderboards under them are measured from play-by-play releases that begin in 1999 — deeper, but blind to the first thirty-two years. Every table says which it is.

All-time franchise records

20 records, cited from the Hall of Fame research. Each says when it was true; a record set in 1970 and one counted through 2024 are both here.

Measured leaderboards, 1999–2025

Ten deep in every category, built from 27 seasons of nflverse player statistics covering 655 players who appeared for New Orleans. nflverse publishes player season statistics from 1999 onward. The Saints have played since 1967, so records set before 1999 are not in this file and are cited separately from Hall of Fame research.

Where the two books disagree

8 records differ between the cited research and the measured releases, by small amounts. Neither number is a mistake to be resolved by picking one: they were counted at different times, against different revisions of the same games. Showing both is the honest treatment.

How this page is built

A season is credited to the team the player finished it with, which is how the source attributes a season row. A player traded mid-season may therefore be missing a partial Saints season, or carry one he only half played.

Rate statistics — completion percentage, yards per carry — are not here. A rate record needs a qualifying threshold the NFL defines, and inventing one to publish a leaderboard would make the number look official when the rule behind it was made up on this page.
